CHILD WELFARE SCHEME

Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Manipur has implemented Welfare programmes for Children, destitute children and orphans of Hills and plain of Manipur. Following schemes are implemented for child welfare :

Running of Children Homes

Under the scheme for the Welfare of the Children in need of care and protection, the department has been extending 90% of grant in aid to 8 (eight) Destitute Children Homes run by Voluntary Organisations. At present a sum of Rs.270/- per child per month is provided for care, maintenance, education, fooding etc. There are altogether 320 children are put us in these homes

Bal Bhavans

Department is maintaining a State Bal Bhavan at Khuman Lampak also in which regular informal education/class on Dance/song, musical instrument, computer education, Drawing lessons etc. are taught by experienced officials/Instructors of this Department with attractive Summer and winter camps since 1989. It is affiliated under the Nationasl Bal Bhavan society India, New Delhi.

Children from State Bal Bhavan have achieved National Bal Hero Award for which Awards are given to children excelling in the field of creative arts, creative science, creative writing and performing arts. Till now 8 children have received this Award.

Bal Kendras in the tribal areas of Senapti and Churachandpur Districts have been opened to benefit the children of the remote areas. Opening of one more Bal Bhavan-cum-children park at Moreh, Border town of the Indo Myanmar is under Process.

Sishu Greeha

Another scheme is also implemented in Manipur to promote In-country Adoption for the welfare of the unfortunate children. Three(3) NGOs have been recognized by the State Government and approved by Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India to run these adoption Centres called Sishu Greeha and they may be contacted when deciding for adoption.

Financial Assistance to Destitute Children

Financial assistance @ Rs. 60/- per child per month in the age of 6-14 years were extended to 288 school going destitute children living below poverty line.
